Protocol of 34th NHPRN meeting (December 2023)

Summary of the 34th meeting, 5-6th December 2023, WHO Copenhagen  

The thirty-fourth meeting of the Nordic Health Promotion Research Network was held on 5-6th December 2023 at WHO, Copenhagen, Denmark. 

On the first day, Professor Gloria Macassa (member of the network), Högskolan I Gävle, gave a lecture on the theme: ”A public health perspective on Urban Commons – public urban spaces for health and wellbeing.” Thereafter, Associate Professor Nicole Thualagant, RUC, and PhD Pelle Korsbaeck Sörensen, Absalon, (both members of the network), presented a new book that they have edited and also written a chapter in: ”Sustainable Health and the COVID-19 crisis: Interdisciplinary perspectives”. The book is available online.

After that, Associate Professor Sofie Busch Mejsner, convener of the network´s empowerment working group, informed the network about the past and ongoing work in the empowerment group. Assistant professor Ditte Heering Holt (member of the network), University of Southern Denmark, announced that she is going to start a new network working group: ”Intersectoral Action for Health.” Then Niko Männikkö (member of the network), Lead Researcher at Oulu University, presented his research on ”Problematic Internet use and gaming disorder. Overlap and relationships between health-related outcomes.”  Professor Sami Kokko (member of the network), University of Jyväskylä, shared and discussed with all the participants the conference group´s reflections on the 10th Health Promotion Research Conference, which took place in June this year at Halmstad University, Sweden. The next conference, the 11th, will take place in Norway in 2026. Topics/themes for the conference were discussed but not yet decided. The work with the forthcoming supplement with articles from the Halmstad conference proceeds as planned. Finally, time was set aside for work in the working groups.

The second day started with work in the working groups. After that, Anastasia Koylyu, Technical Officer, Behavioural and Cultural Insights (BCI), Regional Office for Europe WHO, updated us about the ongoing work in the BCI group. This was followed by a presentation by Floro Cubelo, PhD student at Oulu University, Finland, on ”Internationally Educated Nurses: Integrating Climate Action for Sustainable Well-being”. Next, the network´s working groups reported about ongoing work in the working groups.

Before the meeting closed, it was decided that at the next meeting in spring 2024, the working group ”PhD review of Nordic theses” would present their work. It was also decided to invite a person from the WHO who is working with Healthy Cities as an external speaker.  

The next meeting, the 35th, will be held at WHO, Copenhagen on 14-15th March 2024. The autumn meeting was decided to be scheduled for the 28-29th November 2024 at WHO, Copenhagen.
